Garnet F. Hoard
Age 84, of St. Louis, passed away Monday, January 22, 2018 at Arbor Grove Assisted Living Center in Alma.
Garnet was born August 8, 1933 in Gratiot County to J.B. and Erma (Barnes) Hoard Sr. He graduated from St. Louis High School with the class of 1951. Garnet married Lillie Blanton on December 1, 1951 at the Breckenridge United Methodist Church. He served his country in the US Army. He was a member of the Breckenridge United Methodist Church and the Breckenridge Masons.
Garnet was a life-long farmer. He was very active at his church and throughout the county. He was a long time representative of local sugar beet growers, serving on the Alma, Great Lakes and American Sugarbeet Growers Association, past president of the Farm Bureau of Gratiot County, was a Breckenridge School Board Member, and is in the Michigan Farmers Hall of Fame. He enjoyed camping, hunting, antique tractors, square dancing and driving his Model T.
Garnet is survived by his wife Lillie, daughter Jan Bjelopetrovich, son Steve (Laura) Hoard, grandchildren Tania, Ali, Nick, Annie, Zach, Rachel, Lindsay, great grandchildren Victoria, Calvin, Lanardo, brother J.B. Hoard Jr., sister-in-law Lillian Hoard and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ken Hoard, son-in-law Boz Bjelopetrovich and sister-in-law Norma Hoard.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 26, 2018 at 11 am at the Breckenridge United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Ridgelawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm with a Masonic Service at 7:30 pm, all at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Breckenridge United Methodist Church, Breckenridge Educational Fund or the Howe Memorial Library.
