Yoriko S. Lewicki of Flushing, age 89, passed away peacefully at home with her family at her side on Friday, December 21, 2012. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 1 p.m. Friday, December 28, 2012 at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 310 N. Cherry St., Flushing. Fr. Roy Horning will officiate. Burial of cremated remains will be at Arlington National Cemetery, next to her husband. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, Flushing Senior Center, Flushing Historical Society, or the American Cancer Society.

Yoriko was born February 23, 1923 in Tokushima, Japan, the daughter of Itsuro and Tazuko (Nakamura) Shirai. She married Clemens Lewicki on Valentine’s Day, 1956 and came to the U.S. to become a legal citizen. Married for 55 years, Yoriko and Clemens traveled throughout the world, settling in Flushing. He preceded her in death on September 25, 2011.

Yoriko was well known for her gallery-worthy water color paintings which were shown at Fandangles’. She had many long time friends that were dear to her.

She is survived by: her brother, Hisaya Shirai; sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews, all of Japan; sisters-in-law in the U.S.; and family caregivers, Lawrence and wife Cheryl Lewicki of Bay City.

The family would like to extend sincere gratitude for the care and compassion received from Comfort Care and McLaren Hospice.
