JOHNSON, Melvin F. - age 88, of Flint Twp., died October 3, 2019. Funeral service will be held 11 AM Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at Swartz Creek United Methodist Church, 7400 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek with Rev. Dr. Gary Glanville officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8 PM Monday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, MI 48473. Visitation will also be held from 10 AM - 11 AM Tuesday at the church. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Swartz Creek United Methodist Church or Swartz Creek Senior Center. Melvin was born February 17, 1931 in Flint, the son of Henry L. and Effie F. (Swanson) Johnson. He was a graduate of Flint Central High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. Melvin married Betty Ann Erickson on September 17, 1955 and she preceded him in death on October 12, 2005. He then married Aleana Bell Selves on November 30, 2008 and she preceded him in death on November 21, 2015. Melvin retired from General Motors in 1986 after 37 years of service. He was a member of Swartz Creek United Methodist Church and Swartz Creek Senior Center. Melvin was an avid woodworker and wood carver. Surviving are: three children, Karen (Ken) Kautz of IN, David (Michelle) Johnson of Fenton, and Sally (Dale) Engel of Linden; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; twin brother, Alvin J. Johnson; and sister, Elaine Dolan. He was also preceded in death by: three brothers and a sister. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com. |
