CROSS, Gertrude Ann "Trudy" - age 94, of Grand Blanc, died Wednesday, January 15, 2020. Funeral services will be held 11AM, Friday, January 31st, 2020 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, MI 48473. Interment will follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI. Visitation will be held 4-8 pm Thursday, January 30th, 2020 at the funeral home.Those desiring may make donations to the Alzheimer's Association or Kindred Hospice. Trudy was born on October 12, 1925 in Flint, MI, the daughter of Warren & Leona (Dahljelm) Carl. She was the Valedictorian of the 1943 graduating class of Flint Northern High School and went on to Central Michigan University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree. Trudy married George Cross on February 15th, 1942. Together they raised 5 children. Trudy retired from the City of Flint, Parks and Recreation Department after 33 years. She was instrumental in the startup of most senior services for the city, county & state, opening and becoming the first Director at Pierce Senior Center in Flint. She, along with other senior leaders started the "Senior Leader Workshop" held in Flint Trudy was chosen & invited to the White House as a delegate for the National Council on Aging and received numerous recognitions and awards for her tireless efforts and dedication to older adults. Upon retirement from the City of Flint, she was hired as a grant writer & reviewer for senior services by the Mott Foundation. She also became a part- time college professor at Central Michigan University, becoming a published author of 3 books on recreation. The family wishes to send a special thank you to Holly Blake & family for all the many years of compassion & dedication in their care giving. Also, thank you to the staff at The Landings & Kindred Hospice Care. Surviving are her 5 children: Kathleen Mitchell of Merritt Island, FL, John (Ann) Cross of Jackson, MI, Cindi (Gary) Gronau of Flint, MI, Sandy Stevens of Grand Blanc, MI, Peggy (Bill) Trigger of Swartz Creek, MI; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret Cochran; sister-in-law, Myrna Gallinat and many nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by: her husband, George; two brothers, Norman and Paul; and son-in-law Bob Stevens. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
