CONFER, Katherine Theresa (Landrie) - age 72, of Fenton, died October 6, 2013 at home after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. Kathy was born January 3, 1941 in Saginaw, daughter of Katherine (Chase) and Leo Landrie and graduated from Holy Family High School. She married Richard A. Confer on November 14, 1959 and they had three children: Debra Ann, Keith Allen, and Scott Michael. Kathy was a talented seamstress, cook, gardener, and cake decorator. Family meant a great deal to her; she always enjoyed family gatherings. She was a wonderful grandmother and made sure each child had a "special day" to shop and enjoy one-on-one time every year. She also collected nativities and Santa figurines, which she displayed not only at Christmas, but throughout the year.

Kathy and Dick joined the National Street Rod Association (NSRA) in 1980 and she was an active member. She put her sewing skills to good use by designing and upholstering many street rod interiors. Her black and green 1937 Ford Club Coupe won both local and national awards. Along with her husband, she joined the NSRA Michigan Safety Team in 1987 to inspect and ensure the safety of street rods. For more than two decades, they managed the safety team, and frequently led Michigan to the top of the national rankings for the number of street rods inspected in a single season. In 2001, she was inducted into the Canadian Hall of Fame for her contributions to the street rodding community.

She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings, James Landrie and Ann (Landrie) Filary. Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Richard Confer; daughter, Debra (Bill) Meek of Fenton; sons, Keith (Kim) of Flushing and Scott (Lisa) of Novi; and seven grandchildren, Michelle, Ashley, Daniel, Kelsey, Karen, Sarah, and Matthew.
