Shirley J. Brodt, 81, a lifetime resident of Lapeer, passed away on January 13, 2020. She was born on February 22, 1938, in Detroit, MI to (the late) Elmer and Lottie Dillon. Shirley graduated from Lapeer High School class of 1956. Shirley was a homemaker for most of her life but also worked as a secretary for Lapeer High School for several years. She and her husband Don were longtime members of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lapeer and she volunteered much of her time there. She enjoyed sewing, baking, cooking for her family and many wonderful trips all over the country with her family. Shirley was an all around great person who always put others first. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Don Brodt; her children Elizabeth (Tom) Gibbs and Mark Brodt; four grandchildren, Kyle Gibbs, Lucas Brodt, Nicole Brodt, and Abbie Gibbs. Also several nieces and nephews and her dear friend Sue Smith.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Dale, Elmer, and Ronnie Dillon.
Friends may visit on Thursday, January 16th from 4-8 PM at Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors - Capstick Chapel in Lapeer. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 17th at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 90 Milleville Road, Lapeer, MI 48446. Pastor Andrew Johnson will officiate. Shirley will be laid to rest at Stiles Cemetery. Memorials to St. Paul Lutheran Church are appreciated.
