Dean Joseph Kitchen of Clarkston, MI, formerly of Millington, MI, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at the age of 72.
Dean was born on November 22, 1952, in Flint, Michigan and was the son of the late Joseph “Joe” & Hazel (Sohmer) Kitchen. Dean grew up in Millington and graduated from Millington High School in 1971. Dean went on to attend college at Michigan State University, graduating with his degree in Criminal Justice. Dean married Miss Diane Freeman on June 9, 1973, Dean went on and became a special agent for the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation for 5 years, working as an undercover officer. When he left Iowa, Dean and Diane moved back to Michigan taking up residency in Tawas, Michigan, where he and Diane purchased the Tawas Drive-In Movie Theater from Dean’s uncle. After he and Diane sold the Tawas Drive-In they moved to Clarkston and purchased the Clarkston Cinema, and later opened a theater in Fenton Michigan, the Fenton Cinema. Dean was a man of many hobbies, he loved sailing his boat all around the Great Lakes, and land sailing in the desert, he had the need for speed. Dean also dabbled with electronics creating surround sound for his theater before most theaters had these systems.
Dean leaves his wife Diane Kitchen; two children, Jae (Devon) Kitchen, and Jennifer Bullard; granddaughter, Hannah Bullard; two brothers, Roger (Kathy) Kitchen and Greg (Jeanne) Kitchen; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends.
In keeping with Dean’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering will be held at Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington from 1 – 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, 2025.
