Vernon Edward Bailey, Jr. - age 69, of Marion, Michigan, formerly from Perry and Flint, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Cadillac. A memorial service will be held at 4 PM Friday, July 8th at the House of Prayer, 9940 Old M-78, Haslett with Pastor David Cokonougher officiating. Final rest will be at Oak Plain Cemetery in Shaftsburg. Friends may call on the family at the church from 2 PM until service time on Friday, July 8th.
Vernon was born July 19, 1941, in Perry, the son of Vernon Edward and L. Madge (Hardy) Bailey. Vern was an experimental engineer with Buick Motors in Flint. He was a avid fisherman and hunter. As a younger man he enjoyed playing softball and could run like a "bolt of lightning". He was an excellent auto mechanic and after retiring, he opened his own garage in partnership with a friend.
Those who cherish his memory include: son, Jeffrey W. Bailey of Birch Run; grandson, Jacob Bailey of Grand Blanc; sisters and brothers, Betty (Dave) Bigford of Kentucky, Barbara (Tim) Eastman of Laingsburg, Gail (Sue) Bailey of Perry, Wanda (Mike) Pierce of Holt, Dennis (Connie) Bailey of East Lansing; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Gary and Robert.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
