A.W. “Sandy” Topham, age 92, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2019 at home in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Monday, July 15, 2019 at Hill Funeral Home, 11723 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc. Rev. Zoltan Steve Sutto officiating. The family will receive family and friends on Sunday, July 14, 2019 from 2-8pm, and again on Monday, one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10am. Memorial contributions may be made to Genesys Health Foundation (Reverence Hospice) or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Sandy was born in Flint, Michigan to William and Winnie (DeVoe) Topham on April 11, 1927. After graduating from Flint Northern High School in 1945 he entered the US Navy and served for two years then came home to attend Flint Junior College (Mott). He met Joyce A. Harding and they were married December 9, 1948 and raised four children. They also had 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He had a love of baseball, playing high school ball, Junior College and Flint Class A City League. He was a MHSAA and City League official for over 20 years. Sandy retired in 1987 as Vice President at Citizens Bank (Huntington) with over 31 years of service, but he never retired from life. He was a charter member and Elder of Farnumwood and Trinity United Presbyterian Churches. He was also a member of Atlas Country Club, a 50 year member of and Past Commander of Grand Blanc American Legion Post 413. Past President of East Central District Michigan Hospital Association. Past Treasurer of Grand Blanc Kiwanis, Grand Blanc Heritage Association, Genesys Volunteers, Acorn Gift Shop, Farnumwood Presbyterian Church, and over 25 years as Finance Officer of Grand Blanc American Legion, and 15 years with Grand Blanc Park and Recreation. He and Joyce traveled to Australia, New Zealand, Baltic Sea Countries, the Caribbean, Alaska, Canada, and the continental US. He had a compulsion for good books, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and all sports. Sandy is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Joyce A. Topham; children: Cynthia (Michael) Dunk, Elizabeth Topham, Matthew (Laura) Topham, and Martha (David) Stockero; grandchildren: Steven (Stacey) Dunk, Anne (John) Cox, Scott (Rachel) Clouse, Andrew (Karla) Clouse, Peter (Melissa) Clouse, Jay (Brandon) Topham-DuBois-Jones, Jill (Thomas) Winterstein, John (Vivian) Stockero, and Sarah (Anthony) Boyle; and his 12 great grandchildren. |
