BURKE, Donald LeRoy – of Montrose, age 88, loving husband to his late wife, Darlene, father of 4 children, grandpa to 8, and great grandpa to 20, passed away at home on Thursday, August 27, 2020, at the age of 88. The family will receive visitors on Thursday, September 3, 2020 from 12PM until 9PM at Montrose Family Worship Center – 9453 Vienna Rd., in Montrose. Private burial at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, with full Military Honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
Donald was born November 4, 1931 in Flushing, Michigan to the late Charles and Mary (Harvey) Burke. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served during the Korean War as a tank driver. Donald married his true love, Darlene Jane Powell on March 12, 1955 at West Court Street Church of God. She preceded him in death on July 2, 2013. He worked for over 30 years at the Flint Auto Auction delivering cars all over Michigan and several other states, where he was referred to as the “car jockey”. Donald was quite the storyteller, an avid watcher of westerns, loved playing horseshoes and watching his beloved Detroit Tigers. Above all, Don loved spending time with his family.
Left to cherish his memory are: Daughters: Carolyn (Joseph) Toth of Flushing, and Brenda Johnson of Montrose; Sons: Donald O. Burke of Montrose, and Scott (Melissa) Burke of Genesee; Grandchildren: Dawayne (Jennifer) Houghteling, Luke (Ashley) Houghteling, Travis (Jennie) Houghteling, Jessica (Roger) Lutze Jr., Chasity (Chris) Dickinson, Alisha (Jason) Beasley, Jason Burke, and Cody Burke; 20 great grandchildren. Donald was also preceded in death by: Sisters: Florence, and Hazel; Brother, James; Sons in law: Steven Arnold, and Michael Johnson.
