METIVIER, John J. Jr. age 88, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away Monday, May 1, 2017 in Linden, Michigan.
Funeral service will be held 12 Noon Thursday, May 4, 2017 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint,
Father David Harvey officiating.
Burial in Crestwood Cemetery.
Visitation 2-4pm and 6-8pm Wednesday and 11am Thursday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
John was born in Flint on March 13, 1929, the son of the late John and Margaret (King) Metivier. John was the former owner of Metivier's Flowers after which he joined the security and fire forces at Flint Truck Assembly, retiring in 1989. Besides his friends and family, he devoted free time to St. John's Catholic Church in Fenton as an usher and Eucharistic Minister, as well as the Genesee County Jail Ministry. He also earned his pilot's license to indulge his love of flying. His athletic abilities in football, baseball and track were widely known, and he held many school records for years at Bendle High School. He was also a life-long Detroit Tigers fan.
He leaves six children, Michael (Yasmin) of Apex, NC, Marya of Ashland, OR, Joseph (Kathy) of Linden, Doug (Dawn) of Sparta, MI, Paul (Jackie) of Cary, NC, and Ellen of Swartz Creek.
He also leaves numerous grandchildren, great- and great-great grandchildren, three sisters, one brother and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Zelda (Boyle) Metivier and daughter, Alice Ann.
The family would like to thank Heart to Heart Hospice for their loving care in our Dad's last weeks, especially Amber Verrette. What an angel she is! Donations to Heart to Heart Hospice would be sincerely appreciated.
