Lawrence Arlon Collins
Age 66 of New Lothrop passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2016.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am on Monday, October 3, 2016 at St. Michael's Catholic Church of Maple Grove with Father John Cotter officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 8:00pm on Sunday, October 2 at Nelson-House Funeral Homes New Lothrop Chapel with a Prayer service at 7:00pm and a Rosary prayed at 8:00pm.
Lawrence was born on October 10, 1949 to Walter and Donna J. (Laughlin) Collins in Reed City, MI. He served in the United States Army. He married Deborah Wendling on October 21, 1972 at St. Michael's in Oakley. Larry worked for GM for 38 years before retiring.
Larry loved the town of New Lothrop, and he was very active in the community. He served on the New Lothrop Village Council for over 30 years, and he held a variety of positions within the community. He loved sports, especially golf, baseball, softball, and football, he coached several New Lothrop sports teams, and he was a big fan of the U of M Wolverines. He was an avid outdoorsman who especially loved fishing and hunting, and he enjoyed going to the casino. Above all, Larry loved being with his family and supporting his grandkids.
Larry is survived by his wife of 43 years, Deborah; his children, Shelley (Christopher) Kocur, Keith (Nancy) Collins, and Scott (Beth) Collins; his grandchildren, Sheala and Krista Kocur, Josh and Sam Collins, and Kylie, Dylan, and Tucker Collins; and his brother, Chuck (Mary Lou) Collins; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.
He is predeceased by his parents, Walter and Donna; his brother, David Collins; his sister, Susan Reigle; his grandparents; and his parents-in-law, Alfred and Ernestine Wendling.
