Lawrence John Okopien, 81, of Rexton, died suddenly but peacefully Sunday evening March 16, 2025 at his residence.
Born June 20, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois, son of the late Joseph and Florence (Gelerak) Okopien, Lawrence moved with parents at a young age to Flint, Michigan where he was a graduate of Flint Southwestern High School.
Lawrence honorably served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War until his discharge and continued in the reserves until he was relieved of his duties.
On July 22, 1967, Lawrence married the former Sherry Weng in Flint and made Fenton their home. Lawrence was employed in the family business, Mayflower Moving Company, for several years and later owned and operated his own trucking service until his retirement.
Lawrence was a seasonal resident of Rexton since 2013 and permanently moved to the area in 2017. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed golfing, hunting, snowmobiling and riding ATV's.
In addition to his parents, Lawrence is preceded in death by his wife Sherry on February 3, 2009 and uncles Jack (Eleanor) Karnes and Ed (Jean) Okopien.
Survivors include his children Steve (Vicki) Okopien of Birch Run, Scott (Tiffany) Okopien of Fenton and Kristin Okopien of Norton Shores; grandchildren Alex (Jessica) of Howell, Joseph of West Branch, Austin of Chesaning, Nick of Hudsonville, Alexis of Birch Run and Jackson of Fenton; special friend and neighbor, Linda.
Per request, cremation services were accorded. A private family celebration of life will take place at a later date.
