Robert J. Shafer Sr. passed away Friday, March 7, 2025 at his home. A memorial service will be 1:00 PM on Friday, March 14, 2025 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel. Chaplain, Wally Rose will be officiating. Family will receive friends on Thursday from 5-8 PM and one hour prior to the service.
Robert John Shafer, Bob or Johnnie as he was known by friends and family, was born July 14, 1941 in Durand, a son of LeRoy and Genevieve (Shepard) Shafer. He graduated from Byron High School in 1960. Bob married his high school sweetheart, Carrol Graff in 1992. He enjoyed antique tractors, motorcycles, dune buggies and music. His love for music landed 6 of his songs on the Billboards top 100. Prior to his retirement, Bob worked for many years at Universal Electric in Owosso and later in his life, worked as a curator for Mitchell Museum. His lifelong passion was his music.
Bob is survived by his son, Bobby (Jeannie) Shafer Jr.; stepdaughters, Collette (Scott) Gormley and Danielle (Aaron) Potts; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; siblings, Mary (Tom) Senture, David (Suzanne) Shafer and Daniel Shafer; his love, Gail Gauthier; her daughter, Whitney Kent; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carrol Shafer; son, Rodney Shafer; stepson, Joe Spring; siblings, LeRoy Shafer, Joy Eilert and Dennis Shafer; parents, LeRoy and Genevieve Shafer.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Mid Michigan Home Health Care and Hospice for the wonderful care and support they provided.
