MURPHREE, Billy H. - Of Michigan and Arkansas, age 85, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 3, 2017.
Visitation 1-3pm and 5-8pm Friday, June 9, 2017 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. Masonic Memorial service 7pm Friday evening at the funeral home.
Funeral service and burial with military honors will be held in Heber Springs, Arkansas.
Billy was born in Swifton, Arkansas on May 21, 1932. He enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 16 and proudly served over 41 years both active and reserves, including a year with 5th RTC Combat Unit in the Korean War. He received numerous decorations, awards and citations, retiring as Sergeant Major. 65 years ago, he married Mary Doris Wildman in Arkansas and moved to Michigan. He worked as a Machine Repair Machinist Journeyman at Flint V8 Engine Plant, retiring in 1991 after 38 years. Billy was an active member of Masonic Linden Lodge #132 and was Past Master and Mason of the Year. He was a life member of NCOA, DAV, VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed his involvement in many activities and organizations and was admired and respected by many. Billy’s family was the very most important thing to him and he always put them first. He was a very devoted and loving husband, dad and Daddy Bill.
Surviving are wife, Mary Doris;
son, Philip H. (Virginia) Murphree of California;
daughter, Vicki (Robert M.) Sprague of Grand Blanc;
grandsons, Robert H. (Sara) Sprague of Grayslake, IL and Jacob (Christine) Sprague of Normal, IL;
grand dog, Cooper;
sister, Eulaila Brown of Texas;
and several extended family and friends.
