PAPALAZAROU, Alexander - Of Flint, age 84, died Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Genesys Regional Medical Center.
Funeral service will be held 1pm Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint.
Father Angelo Maggos officiating.
Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Assumption Greek Orthodox Church.
Visitation 12 noon Wednesday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Alexander was born in Akrita (Bouf) Greece on July 8, 1927, the son of the late Stefanos Papalazarou and Dimitra Panos. He came to the United States and lived in California and then moved to Flint in 1963 until the time of his death. He loved to tell stories of fishing off of Catalina Island, CA. Alexander owned and operated Broadway Coney Island and Olympic Coney Island until the time of his retirement. He was affectingly known as Papa Bear to his customers and staff. Alexander loved to garden, yard work, reading and playing cards.
Surviving are daughters, Mitra (Taso) Pagonis, Lena (Tasho) Vassiliou;
Granddaughters, Ivanna and Natasha;
Brother, Andreas (Stella) Papalazarou Vassiliou;
Sisters, Eleni (Lazaros) Vaiopoulos and Xanthippi Efthimiades;
many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Sister, Arhonda Matsoukis, brothers-in-law, Haralambros Matsoukis and Sotirios Efthimiades.
