Mother Alma Jean Holloway (affectionately known as “Jan-Jan”) was born on May 28, 1934 in Brownsville, TN., the daughter of Nelson and Flossie (Hafford) Robinson. She attended the Hickory Grove School system while living in Brownsville and upon her relocation to Flint, MI she later attended Mott Adult High graduating from Flint Central High School.
Mother Holloway married her childhood sweetheart Milton in 1952 whom she had known since the age of four. Milton relocated to Flint, Michigan in 1956 along with Alma and their three children at that time looking for a better opportunity for his family. She was a devoted and loving wife to him for 55 years until his passing on January 18, 2008. To their union seven children were born. She was devoted to the well-being of her family.
Mother Holloway retired from AC Spark Plug after 30 years. She was a past member of the O.E.S. Rose Marie Chapter, member of the AARP Flint Chapter and the AC Birthday Club. She accepted Christ at an early age and united in fellowship with the New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church in 1972 under the leadership of the late Bishop O.A. Floyd and was a member of the Mother’s Board.
Mother Holloway is known for being straight forward, having a great sense of humor, committed to the success of her children with emphasis on education and family unity was very dear to her heart. She enjoyed traveling, family gatherings and the annual Rawls and Estes-Maclin Family reunions, collecting birds and attending to her flower garden. She also was very talkative and no one was ever a stranger to her.
Mother Alma Holloway leaves to cherish her memory children, Mildred “Millie” Evans, Elayne (Edward) Harrison III, Dewayne (Linda) Holloway, Dewinter Holloway, Dr. Milton Garnell Holloway, Gracie Holloway and Deborah Holloway-Roberts.
She also leaves the following 17 grandchildren, Bianca Evans, Derek (Alto vise) Holloway, Edward IV and Kyle Harrison, Jessica Holloway, Carousel Gore, Tiffany and Jocelynn Jones, Anthony (Marshon) and Kourtney Moore, Andre’ (Mary) and Eric Holloway, Matthew and Christopher Jones, Lisa, Neletha and DeAndre Skelton.
She was also proud of her 19 great grandchildren, Xzavier Evans, Noa and Skylar Holloway, Rosie, Tyler and Dante Gore, Azuriah and Rashidi Jones, Joy and Nicole Bell, DeAndra, Andre’II, Dre’Von, Amari and Adarian Holloway, McKayla and Dedric Shropshire, Alyse McKey and Ari Christian Moore.
Alma also leaves two sisters Carmel Fee (Rev. Lewis Randolph) and Willie Robinson-Flynn and one brother, Marshall (Margaret) Robinson. She has three sister-in-laws, Sally Robinson, Justine and Edna Baltimore and two brother in-laws, Willie Fred (Sheila) and William Taylor (Myrtle) Baltimore.
She also leaves the following nieces Rosie Wong, Patricia Ramirez, Linda, Deborah, Denise, Dionne and Tonya Robinson, Aletha (Kerry) Coleman, Brenda Shobe, Angela (Damon) Saunders, Shelinda and DeAndrea Baltimore, LeAndrea (Reginald) Hagan, Myrlthedria (Brian) McCrary and Wilethia (David) Durham and nephews, Dan (Suni), Michael and Jamal Robinson, Reginald (Stephanie), Glen (Elaine),Deshawn (Bonnie) and Willie Fred Baltimore Jr.
Mother Alma Holloway also leaves a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends including special friends Alma Carter, James Chapple, Mary Lewis, Dorothy Jackson, Barbara Carpenter, Pauline Bransford, Allen and Earline Braggs, Joyce Beard, Mildred Smith, Linda Solomon, Mother Margret Montgomery, Elder Gladys Scott, Pastor John Thornton and Ken Stovall and her Oxley Drive neighbors.
Mother Alma Holloway was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Holloway; parents Flossie and Nelson Robinson; son Eldrett Holloway; brothers Ned, Dan Nelson and Marvin Robinson and sister Rebecca Harley; grandsons Jerel Lamar and Corey Evans; mother and father in-law Central and Taylor Baltimore.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Bonkowski, Dr. Zaki, Dr. Sbei, McLaren Hospice, the nursing staff and physicians of McLaren CCU and Elder Patrick Sanders, Pastor and the New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church family.
