MURPHY, Lorraine S. - Age 80, Linden, died Thursday, January 28, 2016. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Saturday, January 30 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 N. Adelaide St. Fenton. Fr. Jim Rolph celebrant. Interment following in Fairview Cemetery, Linden. Visitation will be held 4-9 PM Friday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Linden Chapel, 209 E. Broad Street, Linden, and at church from 10 AM until the time of Mass on Saturday. A vigil service will be held at the funeral home Friday at 7:00 PM. Those desiring may make contributions to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Fenton, The Loose Senior Center in Linden or The Linden Library.
Lorraine was born May 12, 1935, the daughter of James and Marion White. She was a 1953 graduate of Linden High School and a 1957 graduate of Michigan State University School of Education. Lorraine married Michael P. Murphy on June 22, 1957. She began Murphys Department Store with her husband, Mike in 1958; which later moved to its current location on West Broad Street where they also operated the Linden Laundromat and The Village Hub Restaurant (Currently Shirley’s Diner).
Lorraine enjoyed Mahjongg, quilting, gardening. She was an avid reader and a Spartan fan for all sports.
Lorraine is survived by six sons, Timothy of Linden, Steven (Dalynn) of Fenton, Christopher of Gaines, Dennis (Jacqueline) of Fenton, Michael (Jackie) of Fenton, Matthew (Annette) of Linden; grandchildren, Amber (Jim) Polselli of Fenton, Ashley Murphy of Flint, Heather (Jeremy) Josephson of Linden, Shannon (Nate) Billings of Rochester, Callie Murphy of Fenton, Courtney Evans of Linden, Sean and Danielle Murphy of Fenton, Nathan Hallmark of Gaines, Kayla, Mallory and Emily Murphy of Fenton, Wyatt, Jack, Sam and Joe Murphy of Linden; great-grandchildren, Eva, Skyler, Bree, Celina, Jahdey, Chloe, Addison, Abbey, Jamon, Carson; siblings, John White, Sue Robar, Celia Kelly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Michael; son, Patrick Murphy; siblings, Gene White, Ellen Joe Cavanaugh, Jim White, Janet Watkins.
