JOHNSON, Sandra Kay - age 74, of Fenton, died Saturday, June 2, 2018 at her residence. Funeral service will be held 11 AM Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 W. Silver Lake Rd., Fenton with Pastor Michelle Forsyth officiating. Interment will follow at Tyrone Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held 5-8 PM Tuesday and 2-4 and 6-8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Lung Cancer Research Foundation (www.lungcancerresearchfoundation.org). Sandra was born May 31, 1944 in Saginaw, the daughter of Albert and Thelma (Gardner) Owen. She was a 1962 graduate of Saginaw Buena Vista High School. She married Richard Johnson on January 26, 1976 in Bay City Michigan. Sandra Graduated from Wayne State University in 1988, the same year daughter Shannon graduated from high school. Her career focused on Human Resources at General Motors and other companies but her loves were cooking and her flower gardens. She was outside in a garden almost daily, either her own flower gardens or one of the volunteer gardens she worked in. Toots as her husband always called her was proud to have completed the MSU extension Master Gardener program and was very active. In 2017 Sandy also joined the Fenton garden club “The Open Gate Garden Club”. A life culture highlight was the 3 years Sandra and her husband spent in Japan. With a maiden name Owen, Sandra always claimed to be Irish. During the summer of 2017 Sandra and Richard spent 3 weeks touring England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, and Wales. Surviving are: husband, Richard; son, Sean Pietryga and wife Sherry; daughter, Shannon Watkins and husband, Tim; grandsons, Blain, Zaque and David Pietryga; granddaughters, Sydney Watkins, Maci Pietryga, Tabatha Clark and Jessica Clark; sister in law, Susan Johnson; nephew, Mike Oleyar and wife Cindy; nieces, Kristie Hynes, Shelly White and husband Lenny and Patty Mayball and husband Duane. She was preceded in death by: sister Shirley Oleyar and brother in law, Mike. |
