Ilene C. (Rix) Benaway, age 89, passed away on Monday, February 22, 2016 at the Brookdale Nursing Home in Grand Blanc. Mrs. Benaway was born on June 6, 1926 in Grand Blanc at the corner of Cook and Holly Road to Claude and Arretta Rix. She graduated from Grand Blanc High School in 1944. Mrs. Benaway worked at the AC Plant in Flint during World War II on the Norton bomb sight. After the war she moved back to the farm on Holly Road and married Wayne A. Benaway. When her son Dennis started school in 1954 she started driving school bus for the Grand Blanc School System. She continued to drive school bus through the 50’s and 60’s until she was promoted to Superintendent of Transportation for the Grand Blanc School System in the 70’s. She retired from the Grand Blanc School System in the 1980’s. Mrs. Benaway married Wayne A. Benaway on July 11, 1947. Together they raised their family on Pollock Road in Grand Blanc. She is survived by her son, Dennis, of St. Charles, Missouri; granddaughter, J. Kelly Benaway; great granddaughter, Zoey Lee; great grandson, Brody Wayne of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; two sisters: Justine and Judy Ann; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great nephews. She is preceded in death by both parents, Claude and Arretta Rix; her husband, Wayne A. Benaway; daughter, Denise; brother, Donald Rix; sisters: Betty, Berueta; niece, Judy Kay. Visitation will be held at Hill Funeral Home (11723 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc) on Sunday, February 28, 2016 from 12pm until 3pm. A private graveside service will take place on Monday at Evergreen Cemetery in the family plot. |
