WIENS, Rebecca C. (Nazark) – Of Flint, age 93, died Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Living Joy.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 13, 2014 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Reverend Paul Ytterock officiating.
Entombment at Crestwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Rochester Leader Dogs School.
Visitation 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the funeral home.
Rebecca was born in Flint, Michigan on December 23, 1920, the daughter of Charles and Anna Reynolds and was a resident of the Flint area all of her life. She married Melford Wiens on February 22, 1996 in Flint.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, volunteered for the American Red Cross, was President of the Stevenson School PTA, a member of the Million Dollar Babies Dance Troupe and a scout leader for the Brownies and Girl Scouts.
She belonged to the Silver Blades Ice Skating Club and received gold medals in the Senior Olympics in ice skating, roller skating and ballroom dance.
Mrs. Wiens began the first dog obedience classes in the Flint Schools for the Mott Foundation. She also was the training director for dog obedience for Companion Dogs.
Surviving are three daughters, Carole A. Dewley of Flint,
Patricia I. and husband Steven Hooley of Milan and
Joan K. Nazark of Flint;
granddaughter, Jackie Kuipers of Little Rock, Arkansas;
three step-children, Gary and wife Karen Wiens of Flushing,
Kathy Wiens of Fenton and
Anne Oper of Flint;
step-granddaughter, Ziba and husband Sam Aronson of Grand Blanc;
several nieces, nephews and close friend, Darlene Benore of Fenton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melford Wiens; first husband, William Nazark; grandson, Illinois State Trooper, Randall Kuipers; brothers, Walter, Robert and Charles Henry Reynolds; sisters, Gladys Peterson and Betty Howlett.
