Marie Tynes of Flushing, Michigan died on Thursday, May 16th, at The Landings of Genesee Valley Assisted Living facility. At the time of her death she was 91 years old.Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Rossell Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Flint Memorial Park. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service at 10 a.m.
Marie was born on February 16, 1933, in Lake City, Michigan, to George Older and Margaret Older (O’Connor). She was the third of four children born to George and Margaret. At an early age the family moved to the Flint area where she lived most of her life.
Marie worked for AC Delco for over 40 years. While working full time for AC she became involved with rental properties. She bought and renovated many properties then managed the rentals herself. She was an extremely hard worker and many times she would work all day fixing a property then go in and work a full shift at night. When she rented a property it was always clean and in excellent condition and she was considered a good and fair landlord by her tenants.
One word which could quite accurately be used in describing Marie would be “independent.” She was more than willing to go it alone if she thought a matter should be handled in a particular way. Her son, Edward, would joke that she had been a consultant when Frank Sinatra’s song “My Way” was written!. In her mid 80’s she was still maintaining her own yard in the summer and shoveling snow in the winter so that it would be done “her way.”
Marie could also be described as fiercely devoted to her family and friends and was always generous with her time and resources. Any time she felt a member of her family was being mistreated, she would be there fighting on their behalf. If family or friends needed help, she was one of the first to be there for them. Her devotion to family was rewarded by the loving assistance provided by her family during her final years.
Marie Is survived by her son, Edward; sister, Marlene and husband Dick Caplis; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by both parents and siblings, Richard, Shirley and Bernard.
