SCHMITZ, Elizabeth B. – of Davison, age 86, died Thursday, April 9, 2015 at her residence on the 15 th anniversary of her husband's death. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 N. Dayton St. in Davison. Rev. Fr. Andrew Czajkowski officiating. Cremation to follow. Inurnment will be in Davison Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call at the O'Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio on Monday from 1-8PM and at the church on Tuesday from 10AM until time of Mass at 11AM. A parish Scripture service will be held at 6:30pm Monday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to St. John Catholic Church, Old Newsboys or St. Vincent De Paul in Port Richey.
Elizabeth was born December 13, 1928 in Monchengladbach, Germany to the late Jakob and Sibilla (Hilgers) Bockers. She was the only one of her family that immigrated to the US. She married her sweetheart, Edward, on February 15, 1952 as she entered America. They began their life together in Davison and stayed in the Flint area most of their life. They enjoyed participating in many German functions. After Ed's retirement they wintered in Florida and eventually moved there in 1995. Ed preceded her in death on April 9, 2000. While in Florida, she was a member of St. Vincent De Paul Parish and volunteered at St. Vincent De Paul Shop in Port Richey, FL. Due to failing health, Elizabeth returned to Davison in 2011 to be close to family. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, bowling and visits with family, friends and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving are: sons Edward E. (Debbie) Schmitz of Mt. Morris, Bernard W. (Cathy) Schmitz of Davison; Grandchildren: Heidi Schmitz of Ann Arbor, Erich (Andrea) Schmitz of Flint, Katrina Schmitz (fiancée Joe Slackta) of Flint; Step Granddaughter, Heather Markanovich of TX; Great grandchildren: Mylee Schmitz and Wyatt Slackta; many nieces and nephews in Germany.
