IVES, Carol Jean – of Burton, MI, age 86, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2020. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at an unspecified later date.
Carol was born in St. Joseph, Missouri, on May 19, 1934, the eldest daughter of the late Harvey and Katherine (Lynch) Groenke. She married the love of her life, Elden D. Ives, on October 23, 1954, in Flint, Michigan, and he preceded her in death on March 9, 1990. For the 30 years after his passing, she reminisced of her love for him and of fond memories they shared. Carol dedicated 38 years of her life as a General Motors employee. However, her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family and was always so very generous. Carol was an amazing seamstress, making adorable matching outfits for both of her children. She was also a devout quilter and painter, creating many masterpieces for loved ones. Carol was a skilled Euchre player and enjoyed game nights with groups of friends. She loved travelling, especially to visit her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in Montana. Carol was strong-willed; always holding true to her passions and beliefs.
Carol is survived by daughters, Maureen (Michael) Lighthiser, Colleen (Joseph) Grathoff; grandchildren, Michael (Genevieve) Lighthiser, Jr., Mark (Erica) Lighthiser, Samantha (Matt) Jackson, and Alex Grathoff, great-grandchildren, Eva, Jacob, Clara, and Emmett Lighthiser; sisters, Willa Curtis, Kathy Miller, and Judy (Larry) Ward; sister-in-law Sally Simpson; many nieces and nephews as well as many other loving family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Elden D. Ives and parents, Harvey and Katherine Groenke.
