McKone, Robert B. of Flushing, age 79, died Friday, August 1, 2014, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at Rossell Funeral Home. Rev. Debbie Line-Yencer will officiate. Burial will follow at Flushing Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday and 1:00 p.m. Tuesday until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to McLaren Hospice or Flushing United Methodist Church.
Robert was born in New Lothrop, Michigan on June 16, 1935, the son of Cecil and Leona (Conklin) McKone. He married Suzanne M. Bruner on July 20, 1956 at Flushing United Methodist Church. Together, they resided in Flushing, Michigan their entire married life. For many years he was a Standard Oil agent that delivered fuel oil to the local commmunity. He took great pride interacting with his many customers. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, baking cookies for the family and spending time at Hubbard Lake. He was especially proud of his historic home located in the center of Flushing.
He is survived by his wife, Suzanne of 58 years; daughters, Cathryn (David) Staley, Caryn (Larry) Thurston; five grandchildren, Eric (Heather) Staley, Andrea Staley (Conall Walsh), Samantha Staley (Shabier Raffee), Morgan (Pat) Ward, Taylor Thurston (Derrick Franckowiak); two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Evan Staley; twin brother, Richard (JoAnn) McKone; sister, JoAnn (Mike) Cookingham; sister-in-law, Exie McKone; and beloved dog, Rusty.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jack. |
