DRAPER, LaVerne C. – of Davison, age 80, passed away May 28, 2017 at Genesys Health Park. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held 11 AM Friday, June 2, 2017 at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 8192 Davison Rd., Davison; Pastor Ed Borycz officiating. Visitation will be 10-11 AM Friday at the church. Burial of cremated remains will be in Davison Cemetery, 1 PM Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew Presbyterian Church or the Davison Area Senior Center.
Vern was born in Millington, MI on October 29, 1936, son of the late LaVerne and Vivienne (McPherson) Draper. He married Elsie Louise Duquette on May 10, 1958 and she preceded him in death on September 12, 2010. Vern graduated from Millington High School in June of 1954 as Valedictorian and played football, basketball and baseball. He started college in September of 1954 at General Motors Institute (now Kettering University) and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in May of 1959. Vern continued his employment with General Motors at Buick Motor Division and retired in October of 1999 after 45 years of service. He and Louise celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends on May 10, 2008. Vern was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Shriners. He was an active member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Davison, MI and was on the Kearsley School board for over 25 years. Vern was a sportsman, avid golfer and enjoyed Auto Racing, traveling, cruises with his wife and family and wintering in Lakeland, FL.
Vern is survived by his children, Barry (Laurie) Draper of Fort Myers, FL, Pamela Arnold of Okemos, MI, Jill Chopski of Davison, MI; grandchildren, Lauren, Madeline and Kelly Chopski, Amanda Arnold; sister-in-law, Michelle O’Connor; niece, Sue Kocks; two great nephews and many first and second cousins. He was preceded in death by his sister, Karen Keown.
