Christenson, Joan Harper Age 89 of Ypsilanti,formerly of Flint, died September 2, 2017 at the Gilbert Residence in Ypsilanti due to complications of dementia. Services will be held 4PM Tuesday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Visitation 2-4PM until the time of service. Those desiring may make contributions to The Gilbert Residence's Charitable Care Fund, 203 S. Huron St., Ypsilanti, MI 48197. Joan was born in Flint, MI on June 17, 1928 to James and Nina (Moyer) Harper. She graduated from Flint Northern High School in 1946. On June 19, 1948, she married the love of her life, J. Dale Christenson. Joan earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan and a Master's degree from Central Michigan University in Education. She was a teacher in the Flint and Grand Blanc School Districts for almost three decades. Joan was past president of Delta Kappa Gamma and enjoyed gardening, walking, and traveling. Joan was also a great hostess who was known for her cooking, optimism, and cheerfulness. Surviving are two daughters, Nancy L Christenson of Mesa, AZ and Salli J. Christenson and husband Mike Gould of Ann Arbor. Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dale in 2007; daughter, Cathy L Christenson in 2009; parents, James and Nina; two sisters, Marjorie Thomaides and June Doelle.
