WALDEN, David John – of Birch Run, age 88, died Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at Mary Free Bed - Covenant Healthcare of Saginaw. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in memory of David at 11:00 AM Friday, December 20, 2019 at Saints Francis and Clare Catholic Parish in Birch Run. Rev. Fr. Bob Byrne officiating. Private interment will follow at Birch Run Township Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the church on Friday from 10AM until the time of Mass at 11AM. Contributions may be made to Saints Francis and Clare Catholic Parish.
David was born March 19, 1931 in Grayling, Michigan to the late John and Phyllis (Deyarmond) Walden. He graduated from Saginaw High School and spent his childhood years in Lewiston, Michigan. David resided in Birch Run the past 61 years. He married Evelyn Moeller on September 15, 1951 in Saginaw. She preceded him in death on May 15, 2018. David was a longtime member of Saints Francis and Clare Catholic Parish in Birch Run. He was a working man. Starting at the age of 14, he worked for Hoff Dairy, where he remained for 25 years and advanced to plant manager. David's next 25 years were spent as a truck driver for Roadway Trucking. After retiring, he began working his hobby farm for the next 25 years. David was very fond of the outdoors, camping and farming - he raised both farm animals and crops. David enjoyed antique tractors, hay auctions, and his big cat, Porky. David loved the Lewiston area and the family cottage on East Twin Lake. In the evenings, he tuned in to PBS stations to watch his favorite programs, The Lawrence Welk and Red Green shows.
Surviving are: Daughters: Deb Stead of Birch Run, and Cindy (Chuck) Jones of Gladwin; Sons: John (Bridget) Walden of Birch Run, and Randy Walden of Clio; Grandchildren: Andrea (Howard) Taylor, Brian (Jessica) Stead, Carrie (Mark) Papineau, and Chris (Rose) Jones; Great grandchildren: Nathan Stead, Lauren Stead, Rachel Stead, Lillian Jean Jones, and Claire Marigold Jones. Also Peter, his friendly visitor and helper from Saints Francis and Clare. David was preceded in death by his parents.
