QUINN (NOVAK), Rena H. – Age 85, died Sunday, May 15, 2016.
Memorial Visitation 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. Graveside Service will be held at Glenwood Cemetery at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2016.
Rena was born on March 3, 1931 in Flint, Michigan, the youngest child of Frank and Lola (Pardell) Novak and was a resident of Davison, Michigan.
She grew up in the city of Flint and graduated from Flint Central High School in 1949. She graduated from Michigan State University in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology. Over her more than 50year career she worked as a Medical Technologist for Michigan State University, Genesee Memorial Hospital, and the Red Cross. She spent the bulk of her career at McLaren Flint Medical Center.
Rena was an avid traveler, skier, golfer and Michigan State University supporter. She was active over the years with Schussmeister’s Ski Club, MSU Alumni Club of Genesee County, and volunteered at the Buick Open and prepared taxes at local senior centers. In addition, she served as a high school science fair judge.
Rena married Luke Quinn in January, 1955. She is survived by her four children, Susan (Dale) Wolverton of Swartz Creek, Michael Quinn of Rockville, Maryland, Laura (Alan Smith) Quinn of Silver Spring, Maryland and Kathryn (Ron) Satow of Hermosa Beach, California;
four grandchildren, Matthew Wolverton, Marcus Wolverton, Isabel Quinn Smith and Quinn Satow;
one great-grandchild, Owen Hudson Wolverton;
nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Walter Novak; sister-in-law, Daisy Katherine Novak and her ex-husband, Luke Quinn.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics Program at Michigan State University, North Kedzie Hall, 354 Farm Lane Room N322, East Lansing, MI 48824-5672.
