RIVERA, Thomas “Tommy John” – of Clio, age 76, died Saturday, February 2, 2019 at his residence. Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service in honor of Tommy John will be held 2PM, Saturday, April 13, 2019 at the OGuinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. Family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Saturday from 11AM until the time of service at 2PM. Memorial contributions may be made the Karmanos Cancer Institute in Flint.
Tommy John was born August 24, 1942 in Kapaa, Hawaii to Manuel and Mary (Balasanos) Rivera. He graduated from Kapaa High School in 1960. Tommy John was married to Pamela Theakston, she preceded him in death in 2012. He retired in 1988 as a Chief Petty Officer from the United States Navy after 28 years of service. He also spent a few years working in Civil Service. Tommy John played lead guitar in numerous rock bands, especially the Blue River Band. He was a member of New Covenant Free Methodist Church in Clio. Tommy John enjoyed putting together models of planes, cars, tanks, and ships. He was also an exquisite decorator. Tommy John loved fast cars, most importantly his immaculate 2007 Corvette. Those that knew him would say he was a hard worker, kept things tidy, and was always busy.
Surviving are: Loving companion, Carrie Papineau; Children: Danny Rivera and Angela Lehua; Stepchildren: Teri (Greg) Taricco, Connie (Kenny) Klepper, and Jeff. Many grandchildren; Sister, Barbara Cummings; Brother, Paul (Sandy) Rivera; Carries children: Thomas (Audrey) Papineau and Raeann (Barry) Salter. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Eileen.
