BURTON, Merlyn Louise (Sampson), Age 71, of Flint, died Monday, September 16, 2019. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Friday, September 20, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Visitation will be held Thursday 1 PM to 8 PM and 11 AM until time of service Friday. Those desiring may make contributions to American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Society or Swartz Creek VFW post # 3720.
Merlyn was born on June 9, 1948 in Flint, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Edward and Betty (Headrick) Sampson. She graduated from Flint Southwestern. Merlyn and Orville were united in marriage on April 8, 1988 in Reno, Nevada. Merlyn worked for Chevrolet V8 Engine in production for 20 years before retiring in 1988. She was a loving, giving, generous, and life of the party woman who loved spending time with her family and friends. In her free time she enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling and sewing.
She is survived by her 2 children, Tammy (Darrell) Compton, Guy (Bernie) Odom; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren with one on the way; 8 siblings, Don (Aaltje) Sampson, Cara Sampson, Letricia Sampson, George (Judy) Sampson, Tracy Sampson, Betty (Risto) Nicevski, Tim (Theresa) Sampson and Helen (John) Lescelius; and several nieces and nephews.
Merlyn was preceded in death by her husband, Orville; parents, Edward and Betty Sampson; brother, Edward Sampson Jr; and niece Carrie Lucas.
