BOTTI, Jeanette Catherine (Thelen) – of Flint, MI, age 94, peacefully passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2020. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 12 PM Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5199 Richfield Road, Flint, MI 48506; Rev. Fr. Roy Horning celebrant. Interment immediately following the Mass in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 11 AM-12 PM Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan Flint Service Center or the Flint Area Council of Catholic Women, in Jeanette’s memory.
Jeanette was born in Fowler, MI on October 20, 1925, daughter of the late Roman and Magdelen (Witgen) Thelen. She married Lawrence Botti on July 28, 1956 at Holy Trinity Church in Fowler, MI. After graduating as valedictorian from Fowler High School, Jeanette attended Siena Heights College where she earned a Bachelor of Education. In 1958, Jeanette furthered her education attending the University of Michigan, earning a master’s degree in Education. Jeanette was very active in a variety of activities including, camping, canoeing, golfing, bowling (winning a trophy on her bowling team), traveling, including trips to Europe and the Holy Land. She regularly played Bridge and was a member of various Bridge Clubs. For over 35 years, Jeanette actively worked with girl’s associations, including working with the Girl Scouts.
She was also an active member of many organizations including, Holy Rosary Catholic Church since Christmas of 1967, where she was involved in preparing many funeral luncheons, the Holy Rosary Altar Society, where she held various offices, a member of Stephen Ministry as one of three parishioners she received training in the ministry and then aided Holy Rosary Parish in developing a ministry program of their own, President of the Holy Parish School, member of the Council of Catholic Women – Diocese of Lansing and a member of the Flint Area Chapter serving for many years as vice president and then two years as president.
She deeply loved her church and her family, which was the core of her life.
Jeanette is survived by her husband of 64 years, Larry Botti; 3 daughters, Alicia Botti, Valerie (Dr. Algirdas) Vaitas and Sharon (Michael Waterlander) Botti; 3 granddaughters, Catherine Vaitas, Natalie Vaitas and Madeline Vaitas; 2 sisters, Marie Gagnon and Elaine (John) Partenio; many other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roman and Magdelen Thelen; infant daughter, Mary Dolores Botti.
The family would like to extend a very sincere thank you to Mickey and Tina who were Jeanette’s caregivers for several years and showed her so much love, kindness and friendship. Thank you to Kindred Hospice and to all caregiver professionals for providing professional and compassionate care.
