RIDER, Adren E., Sr. – Of Flint, age 86, died Saturday, May 26, 2012, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Thursday, May 31, 2012, at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 6273 Miller Road, Swartz Creek, MI 48473; Pastors Mark Lasley and Chris Yager officiating.
Burial in Crestwood Cemetery.
Visitation 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. Additional visitation 11 a.m. Thursday until the time of the service at the church.
Adren Eugene Rider, Sr. was born in Palatka, Arkansas on July 20, 1925, son of the late Omer Adren and Carrie Elizabeth (Weatherford) Rider.
On March 28, 1948, he married Betty Jeannine Dearing in Success, Arkansas.
Adren and Betty owned Rider Custom Homes, Rider Realty and Adren Rider Electric, working side by side for 43 years, until their retirement in 2002.
Adren moved to Flint in 1950 and completed his electrical apprenticeship with International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local #948. Adren earned the RAM (Real estate Alumni of Michigan) certificate from the University of Michigan in 1971.
Adren was a Past President of the Builders Association of Metro Flint; named Builder of the Year in 1974 and 1995; selected for the prestigious “Home Builders Wall of Fame” in 1985.
During his career, Adren built approximately 1,200 homes and 3 churches. Adren was a Board Member of Lifeword Media Ministry (Conway, Arkansas) from 1976 thru 1994 and has continued as Lifeword Foundation Board Member. Adren has been an active member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Swartz Creek, Michigan. In 1976 Adren became a member of the Birch Creek Club of Flint (Curran, Michigan) where he enjoyed countless hunting trips and family outings.
Adren was a loving and devoted husband, father, uncle, and “Papa”, to his wife of 64 years, Betty;
sons, Eugene (Isabelle) of Palma Sola, Florida;
Jeffrey (Cathy) of Swartz Creek; and
Bruce (Stacy) of Gainesville, Florida;
grandchildren, Scott (Tess), Chad, Melissa, Ashley (Kevin Tormes), Amanda, Andrea, Courtney, Michael, Allison and Alexander;
great-granddaughters, Madelyn Tormes and Sofia Rider;
sister, Helen Elizabeth Gipson of St. Louis, Missouri;
brother, Bobby Lee Rider of Paragould, Arkansas;
sister-in-law, Carol Rider of Azle, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Madolyn Arnold, Mary Kathryn Pulliam, Emma Josephine Allen and Adena York; brothers, Dr. James Donald Rider and Thomas Obedare Rider.
