Stratman, Mr. DuWayne D.-age 77, formerly of Flint, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2019 in Sun City West Arizona. A memorial service will be held at 11 am, Monday, March 11 at the Word of Life Lutheran Church, 17525 W. Bell, Surprise,AZ. A celebration of his life will be held May 13, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1025 Main St, Fenton MI.
Sun City West AZ— DuWayne D. Stratman died Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Del Webb Hospital following a brief illness. He was born May 4, 1941 in Detroit to Dorothy and William Stratman.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 57 years, Diane (Groeneveld) Stratman; daughter, Vickie (Rennie) Sawade; son, Richard (Ann) Stratman; son, Mark (Angie) Stratman; grandchildren, Jesse (Courtney) Stratman, Allison Stratman, Courtney Stratman, Mark Stratman II, Alaric Sawade, Darien Sawade, Katie Stratman, Yona Stratman; three great grandchildren, Raelyn, Cade and Layla, many nieces and nephews, and many close friends.
The eldest of 11, he is survived by eight brothers and sisters: Diann (Dennis) Tomar, Carol (Milo) Moreno, Cheri Hill, Jackie (Jim) Karshner, Gloria (T.K.) Kavanagh, Marc (Lisa) Stratman, Gay LaFountain and Robert Stratman. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Dennis and William.
DuWayne was a hard worker who excelled at several different careers. He was a carrier for The Detroit Times starting as a teenager. He became a Detroit firefighter in 1962 where he served for seven years. In 1968, he began a 30-year career as district manager for The Detroit Free Press in the Genesee / Saginaw County area.
In 1975, DuWayne became the founder and first chief of the Fenton Township Fire Department. He retired as the assistant fire chief in 2000. In 1998, he became a building inspector with the City of Livonia, serving that community until his retirement in 2016.
Duwayne and Diane enjoyed many years working at their marina and boat store, flying their plane and rearing their three children on Lake Fenton where they resided for more than 46 years. They retired to Oscoda, Michigan and Sun City West, Arizona where they enjoyed many clubs and travelling in their RV.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to American Cancer Society (ACS) or American Heart Association in DuWayne’s memory. |
