SCHAEFER, Joseph – Of Grand Blanc, age 80, died Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at his residence.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 North Adelaide Street, Fenton, Father Dwight Ezop officiating.
Entombment at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to ALS or Catholic Charities.
Visitation 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. Friday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. A Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Schaefer will be at the church from 9 a.m. Saturday until the time of the Mass.
Joseph was born in Flint, Michigan on February 4, 1934, the son of the late Arthur and Lucille (Metz) Schaefer.
He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Fenton.
He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and watching his grandchildren’s sports.
Joe retired from General Motors Fisher Body-Grand Blanc and was a member of UAW Local #1292.
Surviving are wife, Diana;
six children, Deborah Schaefer,
Scott Schaefer of CA,
Lisa (Spencer) Stokes of Clio,
Paul (Tami) Lefurgey of Madison, WI,
Mathew (Mary) Lefurgey of Waterford and
Kristi (Mark) Porrell of Williamston, MI;
13 grandchildren, Rachelle (Rick) Bedell, Lindsey Schaefer,
Alexander, Spencer and Ross Stokes, Jacob, Ryan and Parker Lefurgey, Connor, Tyler and Grace Porrell, Allison and Sam Lefurgey;
two sisters, Ermine Yelland and Lou Schlanghart.
He was preceded in death by daughter, Jody Ann Schaefer, in 2007.
