SIMKO, Ilona, of Flushing, age 86, died Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at Maple Woods Manor. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday, February 7, 2020 at St. Robert Catholic Church. Fr. Anthony will officiate. Burial to follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be at 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Rossell Funeral Home with a 7 p.m. Rosary, and 10 a.m. Friday at the church until the time of the Mass. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to St. Robert Catholic Church, S.S. Charles & Helena Church, or Maple Woods Manor.
Ilona was born on August 8, 1933 in Fegyvernek, Hungary to Ambrus and Magdolna (Kubicsek) Fazekas. She married Louie Simko in Hungary on December 23, 1953. Ilona was an avid tennis player for 40 years and was a dedicated figure skating mom. She drove to Lansing daily for skating practice and hand beaded her daughter’s costumes. Ilona was recognized for her beautifully kept yard and roses. She was an exceptional cook and talented baker, known for her traditional Hungarian dishes and pastries.
Ilona is survived by her husband of 66 years, Louie; daughter, Diane (Kelvin Indish) Simko; granddaughter, Ashley Ilona (Jacob Merrow) Bundy; great-granddaughter, Zoey Ilona; and sister, Edith Frank. She was preceded in death by her parents; twin brother, Steven Fazekas; and brother-in-law, Tony Frank. |
