It is with profound respect and remembrance that the family of Barry Jay Marks announces his passing on February 15, 2025, a day shy of his 68th birthday. Born in Owosso, Michigan, on February 16, 1957, to the late Robert Justin Marks and Janet Elaine Goupil, Barry was a man whose life was characterized by his boundless dedication to his family, work, and community.

Barry's early years were spent in the nurturing environment of his hometown, where he formed lifelong friendships and developed a passion for the outdoors. He graduated from Durand High School before attending trade school, which set him on a path to a fruitful career. His work ethic was exemplified through his 30 years of dedicated service at General Motors – a testament to his reliability and commitment.

Beyond his professional achievements, Barry was known for his active engagement in the community. He took on the role of Director of the CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) and was a dependable member of the Shiawassee County Sheriff's Posse for two decades. His involvement extended to his spiritual life as a dedicated member of the Durand First Baptist Church for 15 years.

Barry's life was a canvas of vibrant outdoor activities that reflected his deep love for nature. A dedicated member of the Shiawassee Trail Riders Club, he embarked on an adventurous journey across the state of Michigan on horseback, which remained one of his cherished accomplishments. Trail riding and fishing were not just hobbies for Barry; they were his way of embracing life's simple joys; he loved working outdoors beautifying around his ponds with his tractor and any heavy equipment he could get his hands on.

An exemplar of self-reliance, Barry was also a talented woodworker. His hands skillfully created beautiful and practical works. His property bore the marks of his hard work, with food plots for the deer, worked up on his trusty tractor and a backyard shooting range he built himself – both illustrating his appreciation for outdoor stewardship and responsible firearm enthusiasm.

Barry's impact extended beyond his tangible creations; he was a cornerstone in the realm of emergency management. Through his training and leadership, he empowered countless community members to be poised and prepared for emergencies, often volunteering his time and knowledge. People knew they could rely on Barry for being as thoughtful and helpful in times of need as he was in everyday life. He will be remembered for his love of a good practical joke, whether being on the giving or receiving end.

Barry's devotion to his family was at the heart of everything he undertook. He leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication within his surviving wife, Debra; his sons Adam (Samantha) Marks and Josh Marks; his treasured grandchildren, Eli, Caitlyn, Henry, and KindySue; and his brothers, Kevin and Kurt Marks, also his in-laws, Harley & Kathy Jackson.

As a loving family man and someone recognized for his handy and thoughtful nature, Barry's absence will be deeply felt by all. His was a life that exemplified service, a love for adventure, and the importance of family and community.
