POPADICH, Charles V. “Charley” - Of Flint, age 63, died Monday, May 4, 2015 at his residence surrounded by his family following a 22 month bout with cancer. His positive attitude was inspirational to us all.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11am Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 East Bristol Road, Burton,

Burial in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the family which will be used to establish a college fund for Charley’s grandchildren.

Visitation 2-8pm Thursday and 10am-8pm Friday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. A Vigil Service will be held 7pm Friday evening at the funeral home. Charles will be at the church 10am Saturday until the time of the Mass.

Charles was born in Flint on April 25, 1952, the son of Michael and Virginia Lucille (Nearing) Popadich. Charley graduated from Northwestern High School, Class of 1971. On September 19, 1975 he married Carol O’Brien at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. He was a longtime member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.

Charley was a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus, a member of the Mens’ Club, and former chair of festival.

Charley was a bus driver for five years for Holy Redeemer. He enjoyed car shows, bowling, and fishing and took great pride in his cars and his yard. He could fix anything. Above all, he loved his God. Charley was very faithful. He was a devoted husband, a proud father and a doting grandfather.

Surviving are wife, Carol; sons, Nicholas and wife Jacqueline and Patrick Anthony;
grandchildren, Sadie Siobhan and Lola Simone;
sister, Phyllis Ann (John) Montpas;
brothers, Joseph (Elizabeth) Popadich and William Michael Popadich;
sister and brother-in-law, Christine and Stewart Gates;
many nieces, nephews and many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law, Edwin and Dona O’Brien, great nephew, Michael Montpas.

The family would like to thank Dr. Benton Jr. Dr. Kim and Dr. Szyarto and all the staff at Genesys/Hurley Cancer Institute and Reverence Home and Hospice for all their tender loving care.
