CALLIS, Robert S. - was born on August 14, 1933 in Flint, Michigan to George and Flora Callis. He graduated from Davison High School in 1951 and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Bob was stationed in Washington D.C. where he met his loving wife, Geraldine Gonyea. They began a whirlwind courtship which resulted in a June 1955 wedding, and nearly 59 years of marriage. Following his honorable discharge Bob and Gerry returned to Davison where he entered Flint Junior College in 1957 and received an associate’s degree. He continued his education at the University of Michigan and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education in 1961. Bob later earned his Master’s Degree in Education from Eastern Michigan University in 1967.

In 1969, Bob began his administrative career in the Carman School District. He served as an elementary school principal until his retirement from Rankin Elementary in 1988. Passing along his love and commitment to education, Bob became an adjunct professor at the University of Michigan supervising student teachers for twelve years.

Bob and Gerry purchased a Davison centennial farm in the early 80’s where Bob fulfilled his dream of being a gentleman farmer. Bob was one of the founders of the Davison Downtown Farmer’s Market and acted as Market Master for seven years. He was an active member of Davison Order of Oddfellows: Vernor Lodge #400, until his death. Bob also actively participated in the Old Newsboys and the Davison Community Foundation.
