MCDONALD, Andrew C. “Andy” – of Clio, age 37, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11AM Thursday, May 23, 2019 at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. Fr. Jay Gantz officiating. Burial to follow on a later date at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly with full Military Honors. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2PM until 8PM, and on Thursday from 10AM until the time of service at 11AM. Memorial contributions may be made to Freedom Service Dogs of America.
Andy was born October 20, 1981 in Flint, Michigan to Carter and Kathleen (Johnson) McDonald. He graduated from Grand Blanc High School in 2000. Andy married Kyla Overley November 12, 2016 in Clio. He served in the United States Army from 2001 until 2011 and served as a Tank Commander in the 1st Infantry Division. He completed two tours in Iraq, one in Kosovo and one in Korea. Andy obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant and earned numerous campaign ribbons, including a purple heart and the Army Accommodation Medal with the Valor device. He also earned the honor and highest achievement as Eagle Scout with Boy Scouts of America. Andy enjoyed camping, shooting guns, reading, and attending concerts. Above all, Andy loved spending time with his children.
Surviving are: Loving wife, Kyla McDonald; Children: Charmane McDonald, Jacob McDonald, Menrva Abbott, Lucas Westphal, Walker Roy, Ava Overley, and Skylar Overley; Parents, Carter and Kathleen McDonald; Sister, Kami McDonald; Niece, Sofia Hernandez. Andy was preceded in death by his grandparents: Clarence and Gwen Johnson, Jeanne McDonald, Wayne and Virginia McDonald.
