McGRIFF, Hazel B. - Of Flint, age 92, died Monday, December 16, 2013 at her residence.
Funeral service will be held 3pm Thursday, December 19, 2013
at West Flint Church of the Nazarene, G-2254 South Dye Road, Flint, 48532,
Dr. David Bowser officiating.
Burial in Ridge Cemetery in Gladwin, MI at 1pm Friday, December 20, 2013
Contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
Visitation 3-8pm Wednesday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. Hazel will be at the church 1pm Thursday until the time of the service.
Hazel was born in Gladwin County, MI on May 30, 1921, the daughter of the late Carl and Rilla Knight. Hazel graduated from Midland High School and attended Ferris State University. She was a member of West Flint Church of the Nazarene. Hazel enjoyed gardening, providing day care for neighborhood children and bowling. She always had special loving care for her children and grandchildren. Hazel retired from General Motors Flint Assembly and was a member of UAW Local #598.
Surviving are husband, George;
three children, Richard Gaffield of New York, NY, Daryl and wife Sharron McMichael of Ft. Myers, FL and Linda Riker of Clarkston;
eight grandchildren, Derrick Gaffield, Christian Gaffield, Nathan Wade, Kevin McMichael, Michelle Baker, Brian Riker, April Riker and Denise Wright;
several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren;
sister, Evelyn Shelton of Flint;
and nieces and nephews.
Hazel was preceded in death by her son, Dennis McMichael, her grandson, Bruce Gaffield, her parents and three brothers, Leonard, Stanley and Wallace.
