George Martin Robert Johnston, 69, of Lapeer (formerly of Gaylord), died Friday, January 3, 2020.
George was born July 27, 1950 in Grayling, Michigan to Robert and Martha (McIntyre) Johnston. He graduated from Gaylord High School, class of 1968. He served his country proudly in the US Army during the Vietnam War from January 1969 through January 1972. He married Judith Anne Johnson on June 6, 1970 in Gaylord. Upon separation from his military service, George went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in teaching from Ferris State University. He was an automotive technology teacher for the Davison Public Schools for 34 years, retiring in 2011. George’s favorite things to do were fishing, camping and watching his grandson’s sporting events.
George is survived by his wife, Judy Johnston; children: Laura Johnston of Burton and Andrew (Liz) Johnston of Lapeer; four grandsons: James, Jesse, Hayden and Drew. George was preceded in death by two brothers: John Johnston and Tom Johnston and his aforementioned parents.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Residential Hospice, 1681 Woodbridge Park Avenue, Lapeer, Michigan 48446.
In keeping with George’s wishes, cremation services have been entrusted to Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer.
