NEVELS, Russell “Russ” Eugene – of Vassar, MI, age 66, passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his family. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held 3 PM Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423; Pastor Scott Shamel officiating. The family will receive visitors 12-3 PM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Michigan Food Bank, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or a charity of one’s choice.
Russ was born in Flint, MI on February 4, 1953, son of the late Paul Eugene and Alma (Snider) Nevels. He married Valerie Martinez on May 1, 1992, and she survives him. Russ enjoyed hunting, fishing, and motorcycles - especially Harleys. He truly loved his family.
Russ is survived by his wife, Valerie Nevels; children, Tammy Amy (Tony Whitehead), Heather (Ed) Guerra; stepdaughters, Mina (Mike) Gardner, Melissa (Brent) Stocker; grandchildren, Joshua Martinez, Brendan Stocker, Kyle Gardner, Nikki Gardner, Stanton Amy, Brandi Lovell, Brianna Guerra, Brayden Guerra, Bryson Guerra, Brooklyn Guerra; brother Steve Nevels; stepmother, Peggy Phaneuf-Nevels; step-siblings, Ellen Phaneuf, Rich (Cathy) Phaneuf, Rodger Phaneuf, Dan (Denise Coon) Phaneuf; special cousins, Gerry Griffus, Bobby Griffus; his puppy, Daisy; many other loving family members. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Joshua Martinez and stepbrother, Ron Phaneuf.
