Graff-Balcer, Dr. Barbara Ruth- Age 63, of Flushing, died Sunday August 25, 2019 at Hurley Medical Center, with her family by her side. Funeral services will be held 11AM Saturday, August 31, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1225 Robert T. Longway Blvd., Flint. Bishop Chris Pangrl presiding. Visitation will be held 3PM to 8PM at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek and again at 10AM until time of service on Saturday at the church. Cremation will be after the funeral service with internment at Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal, IL at a later date. Those desiring may make contributions to the family. Barbara was born September 29, 1955 in Flint, the daughter of Eldon and Lillian Pauline (Taylor) Graff. She married Jim Balcer on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2015. (Barbara picked that date so Jim would hopefully remember and take her out to dinner!) Barbara graduated with honors in 1973 from Flushing high School and attended Spring Arbor College. She later transferred to Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport, Iowa. Dr. Graff opened a practice in Montrose in 1982 and various offices in the Grand Blanc and Swartz Creek areas. She then went on an 18 month Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving in Japan Sendai Mission. After closing her office, she taught at Mott College for 8 years, retiring in 2016. Barb enjoyed art, music, playing the organ and singing karaoke. She served in many leadership capacities in her church. Surviving are: husband Jim Balcer of Flushing; father, Eldon Graff of Davenport Iowa; sisters, Laura (Graff) Duncan of Princeton, Iowa, Patricia (Marc) Graff Conway of Reynolds Illinois; step son Frank Balcer; nephews, Alex, Caleb, and Tavis. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lillian Pauline Graff. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com. |
