John “Jack” Russell David, age 89, formerly of Bancroft, MI passed away on August 20, 2024, in Port Charlotte, FL. John was born in Detroit MI on August 4th, 1935, to John G and Vivian David. He graduated in 1953 from St. Matthews High School, in Flint, MI where he excelled in basketball. While at St. Matthews, he met his first wife, Elizabeth (Swales) David. Married in 1956, they had four children together.
Throughout high school and into college John worked as a shoe salesman for Flagg Bros. Shoes in Downtown Flint, MI, working for Harlan Vance. He studied Business Administration at Flint Junior College and Eastern Michigan University before starting his career with General Motors Corporation in 1957. At GM he worked as an Industrial Engineer and as a Finance Manager, spending time early in his career on the road, auditing automotive dealerships throughout the United States.
In 1976, John met and married the love of his life Linda (Partlow) David, and moved to Bancroft, MI. They were inseparable for the next forty-eight plus years. He retired from GM in 1988 but from 1981 to 1998 he indulged another passion, Entrepreneurship. During this period, he and Linda ran a successful restaurant business, (Golden Spike, LLC – 1981-1983), David Vending, 1988-1993, and L.J. Arabians, 1995-1998, a 14-stall horse boarding and training facility. Throughout their marriage they enjoyed many activities together, including skiing, riding horses, and attending horse shows, where Linda often competed. They both maintained many long-term friendships and socialized regularly. Their love of animals was passed down to their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
In 2002 they auctioned off everything and bought a travel trailer with the intent of travelling the country. Instead, however, they answered a higher calling and moved down to the Port Charlotte, FL area to care for Linda’s ailing parents. While in Florida, they enjoyed golf (of which John was an avid student and player), landscaping projects, walking, riding bikes, and dinners with friends. Everyone who met John swore that no matter what part of the country he was in, he would know someone.
John loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and was so proud of all of them, bragging to anyone that would listen about their accomplishments. Having lived an exciting, full, active life, the lessons he shared were true diamonds, timeless.
John is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda, his 4 children, Andy (Donna), Julie, Matthew (Karen) and Jim (Lisa) David, brothers Dennis (Barb) David, and Don (Judy) Ross, sister Dodie Guidos, grandchildren Kelly (Kohl) Bechtel, Maria (Dustin) Burch, Monica (Dan) Pulver, Chad David (Stephanie Van-Koevering) and Matthew David, Kimberly (Jace) Johnston, Chelsea David (Nitesh Yadav), Alexandria David, Meghan (Adam) Atkinson, Bailey (Tyler) Jackson, 9 great-grandchildren (plus one on the way) and several nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents and his sister, Diane (Livasy), and brother-in-law Robert “Bob” Guidos.
