SMITH, Gerald "Otto" "G.O." - Of Flint, age 73, died Friday, October 9, 2015 at the University of Iowa Hospital.
Funeral service will be held 11:30 am Friday, October 16, 2015 at Lamb of God Lutheran Church, 2051 West Maple Avenue, Flint,
Pastor Paul Boerger officiating.
Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery.
Donations given in memory of Jerry will be directed to organizations of his family’s choice.
Visitation 4-8pm Wednesday, 10-8pm Thursday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. Visitation 10:30 am Friday until the time of the service at the church.
Gerald was born in Flint on September 2, 1942. He graduated from Flint Northern High School. Gerald served in the United States Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a member of Lamb of God Lutheran Church and served as an Elder. He was a HAM Radio Operator (N8MMF). Gerald retired as an Electrician from General Motors Buick Division, retiring in July 2008.
Surviving are wife, Betty;
children, Brenda (Gregg) Beutler of Parkman, Wyoming, and James (Micki) Smith of Chesapeake, Virginia;
grandchildren, Amanda (Dan) Sandell, Edward (Ashley) Shannon, Katharine Shannon, Justin Beutler, Anastasia Beutler, Nick Smith, Tiffanni Smith and Destanni Smith;
8 great-grandchildren;
brothers, Keith Smith, Kenneth (Debi) Smith and Mark (Carolyn) Smith;
sister-in-law, Sue Smith;
several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents J.C. and Dorothy Smith and brothers, Jimmy and Lawrence.
