GALBRAITH, Gary E – of Clio, age 72, died Sunday, January 20, 2019 at Ascension Genesys Hospital. Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in honor of Gary at 3:00 on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at Thetford Center United Methodist Church, 11394 N. Center Road, Clio. Family will receive visitors at the church at noon until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to Thetford Center United Methodist Church or UMCOR (United Methodist Committee On Relief).
Gary was born July 2, 1946 in Flint, Michigan to Eldon and Helen (Trautmann) Galbraith. He graduated from Clio High School in 1964. Gary attended Mott Community College. He married Marsha Briggs at Thetford Center United Methodist Church on July 15, 1972. He proudly served in the United States Army. Gary retired from Buick in 1999, after 35 years of service, and was a member of UAW Local #599. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #158 in Clio, life member of Vienna Lodge #205 F&AM, Bay City Elf Khurafeh Shrine and Bay City Consistory. Gary was a founding member of Mid-Michigan Antique Machinery Association and served on the Genesee school board for many years. He was dedicated to coaching track and baseball there and enjoyed volunteering in special education classrooms. Gary loved visiting his cottage on Lake Superior, sitting on the swing there with Marsha. Most of all, he cherished spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are: Wife, Marsha; Children: Timothy (Anne) Galbraith, Christen Galbraith, Lisa Bridenbaker, Laura Edgcombe, and Amanda (Doug) Rodman; 18 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; Brothers: Garth (Colin, Mark) Galbraith and Arthur Galbraith; Sisters: Margaret (Rick) Higgins and Mary (Mel) Proulx. He was also preceded in death by his great grandson, Silas Vankirk. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the staff at Ascension Genesys for their compassionate care of Gary.
