LAFOREST, Donald C. “Don” – of Clio, age 74, died Saturday, July 20, 2019 at the Hospice House of Shiawassee County. Funeral services will be held 11AM Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. Pastor Mark Cox officiating. Cremation to follow. Family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2PM until 8PM and on Wednesday from 10AM until the time of service at 11AM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice House of Shiawassee County or Kindred Hospice. Full obituary to follow.
Don was born April 9, 1945 in Akron, Michigan to the late Cecil and Mary (Neph) LaForest. He graduated from Clio High School in 1963. Don married Diane Hall on October 19, 2007 in Flint. He retired from General Motors in 1994 with 17 years of seniority and was a member of UAW Local #651. Don also owned and operated LaForest Properties Inc. for 25 years. He was a member of the Clio Country Club, the Clio Eagles Club #3609, and the Deep Creek Florida Elks. Don enjoyed golfing, woodworking, and going to the casino. He was also passionate about politics. Most of all, Don loved spending time with his family.
Surviving are: Wife, Diane LaForest; Children: Jeffrey (Stacy) LaForest, Cheri (James) Tew, and Cindy (Mark) Bonasse; Step son, Eric (Laura) Hall; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; Brothers: Robert LaForest and Larry (Connie) LaForest. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Evelyn King. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Marci from Kindred Hospice for her compassionate care of Don.
