McGINNIS, Melvin Laurel, Sr. – of Lakeland, FL, age 83, passed away Saturday, August 3, 2019 at Lakeland Regional Health in Lakeland, FL. A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM, Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison, MI 48423; Pastor Stephen Anthony officiating. Burial will be in Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 PM Friday, August 9, 2019. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central Church of the Nazarene.
Melvin was born in Flint, MI on March 22, 1936, son of the late Emerson and Gladys (Timm) McGinnis. He enjoyed attending church at Central Church of the Nazarene, where he was a longtime member. Melvin retired from GM after 32 years and was a member of the UAW Local 599. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Melvin is survived by his children, Melvin Jr. (Esther), Sandra Kay, John, Ron (Carolyn), Deborah; step-daughters, Holly, Kim; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Bonita, Muriel (Clarence), Dale (Pat), Sharon, Carol (Phil) ; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by wives, Marion, Mary Lou, Kona Sue and five brothers.
