CUMMINGS, Margaret E. “Peg” – loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother passed away on Monday, January 14, 2019 at the age of 98 years young.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Larry Kluck officiating.
Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery.
Those desiring may make contributions to Shriners Children’s Hospital.
Visitation 11 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Peg was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 20, 1920, to Lowell and Edith Petrie.
She met and married the love of her life, Lyle Cummings in 1939. During World War II she worked at AC Spark Plug Factory in Flint.
She raised two beautiful girls, Patty and Peggy. She and Lyle lived on Lobdell Lake and enjoyed spending time out on their pontoon boat. Later in life, they became Snow Birds and enjoyed their winters in the Texas valley. After Lyle passed, Peg spent some time living in Flint near her sister, Elaine.
She spent her last years in San Antonio, Texas living with her daughter, Pat, and near grandkids and great-grandkids.
She enjoyed reading the newspaper front-to-back nightly, as she was a night owl. Peg would clip out parts she knew her family would enjoy. She could survive on sweets alone, sugar was the secret ingredient to her chicken salad.
She made the best aged kahlua. She was always fashionable, but only when it was a good deal.
She enjoyed making well-loved clothes and afghans for her family. She said her secret to longevity was moderation and exercising every morning before getting out of bed.
Surviving are her grandchildren, Donald Archer, David Archer, Lyle and wife Kathy Parr, Patricia and husband Patrick Riou, Denise and husband Eric Ashman, Diane and husband Patrick Hennessy;
great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren;
siblings, Elaine Draper, Jane Fleury and Bill Korth;
many nieces and nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle Cummings; eight siblings; her daughters, Patricia Lanning and Margaret “Peggy” McComb.
